Launching of NSIF Organisational Capacity Assessment Framework for NGOs & Award Ceremony NGO Staff Recognition Scheme

The NSIF presented two key initiatives for promoting the professionalisation of the NGO sector during an event held on Tuesday 30 May at the Hennessy Park Hotel, Ebene.

First, as a way of supporting capacity development in the NGO sector, the Foundation, in collaboration with the University of Mauritius, has developed an Organisational Capacity Assessment (OCA) Framework for NGOs. The OCA Framework is intended to be a self-assessment tool for analysing capacities of organisations and identifying main areas for improvement.

Second, the difficulty to attract and retain qualified and experienced staff is an important challenge hindering the process of professionalisation. With the view to encouraging high performing NGO staff to pursue their career in the sector, the NSIF has introduced an NGO Staff Recognition Scheme in recognition of the contribution of long serving staff members of NGOs. This is a budget measure announced in the Budget Speech 2022-2023. Three retired staff members having worked for more than 10 years in the NGO sector were awarded a recognition shield and a cash grant of Rs50,000 under the scheme.

Hon. Mrs Fazila Jeewa-Daureeawoo, GCSK, Minister of Social Integration, Social Security and National Solidarity was the chief guest at the event which was attended by more than 150 participants from NGOs, public institutions and the private sector.
